Wellbeing

Croydon Primary School’s goal is to educate the whole child, academically, socially and emotionally. Our students will be at the heart of everything we do.

Student wellbeing and achievement are inextricably linked – we build respectful relationships and resilience into every aspect of school life. Our positive school culture gives them the support and confidence they need to flourish. Dedicated wellbeing lessons are taken each week on Respectful Relationships. All lessons are derived from the “Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships” curriculum developed by Melbourne University.

The school provides a variety of supports so that each student is supported in line with their individual needs.

TILLY – WELLBEING DOG

Tilly is on site all day, most days.

The benefits of a wellbeing dog in a school are well researched. Your stress levels, heart rate and blood pressure lower when patting a dog.

Tilly helps students who are having a difficult time transitioning into school, walking them from the school gate to class. She can stay for a while in the classroom to help learning begin and loves to hear reading in the library. She can also help students in the yard.

The special connection many students have with Tilly ensures a positive day.

WELLBEING TEAM

Our Wellbeing Team is lead by Kerri Hutcheson (Assistant Principal ). Referrals may come from parents, staff or even children themselves. Kerri will liaise with the support staff and parents to begin the best model of support.

SOCIAL WORKER – FIONA LARSEN

PSYCHOLOGIST – KATE MC LEAN

CHAPLAIN – NICOLE MAHONEY

Our wonderful wellbeing specialist are on site 4 days a week to support students and families in a myriad of ways. Life changing family events, student anxiety, social issues and parenting support are just many of the things that can be supported. Sometimes one visit is enough, while others will see the appropriate specialist for longer support.

The supports see students develop the confidence to interact positively with their peers, teachers and parents, improving their school experience.

THE LANGUAGE OF WELLBEING

The following values underpin all that we do as a school community: respect, responsibility and resilience.  We have been proud to be a lead school in the Respectful Relationships program to support the health and wellbeing of our community.

BUCKET FILLERS

We are all “Bucket Fillers”

From the start of prep students will know how to be a bucket filler and how not to dip in someone’s bucket.

POSITIVE EDUCATION

Positive Education character strengths are part of the yard reward system.

We reward : Humour and Playfulness, Self Control, Social Intelligence, Kindness, perspective, Fairness, Forgiveness and Zest.

FRIENDOLOGY

From time to time a group of friends need help to interact positively.

We utilise the Friendology program to learn best how to manage these intersections.

Our clam and orderly classrooms and friendly playground ensure that all students feel confident and happy to come to school.
